D week one...

...is done

First week in Halifax is finished.

everything seems to have been sorted, and is settling into a nice happy routine.

lets jump straight into the photos.

a quick photo of the approach into Toronto during my flight last week (thought the flight path was a little strange - and it was a very rough landing...)

Pre-shoot sushi with my sound recordist and his girl

Morning-fog... day 1 forecast rain, so the call-sheet was flipped at the last second - day two started foggy, progressed into some exteriors in mega-sun - and finished with a few interiors (I got burnt...)

local High-School is kindly providing some locations for us

and the local Curling club is our "studio" space

quite old for a sport that most australians have never heard of...

cool glass statue set-dressing just happened to line-up with the curling marks on the floor - giving it red-eyes

Sound Recordist Zan, relaxes between set-ups.

I've gotta say, filming out here is an absolute pleasure. The crews are polite, fast and light-hearted. The scripts are funny (mostly awkward/quirky, which I like) and it's a joy to go into work each morning.

we're on a TV schedule (not soap-opera speed, thankfully); so anywhere from 4+6/8 to 7+6/8 pages a day.

the first few days on location were interesting with 9ft ceilings, and 14-16ft long pole shots (to get over/around student desks) it certainly gave my arms a good work-out; I was shaking pretty hard... 3 days in; I'm a wreck... 5 days in; things are looking good.

It always takes some time to get the old boomin' arms back, and I'm happy to report that after the first week, I'm 90% there...

This weekend is devoted to relaxation - perhaps another film... (transformers was certainly pretty, but a bit of a laugh in the end... at least it sounded cool)

see y'all next week.

Ian

P.S. a few of you have enquired what show I'm swinging, I can't really tell you too much (as always), but a little googling came up with the following... Mr D.

Glad to see your enjoying yourself mate. Sounds a lot better than recording in Oz. Awesome pictures. Anetka says hi, both wish you were still here but glad to see how much fun you're having.

Miss ya mate.

cheers mate, feeling a little more home-sick on this side of the continent... (could be the extra distance, or the fact I'm working 80% of the week, so no socialising)

thanks for the messages, as I miss you guys too.

can you wish Anetka a happy birthday for me...
