Chalk - 2nd January 2013 - Kangaroo Point cliffs, Brisbane.

for a brief part of my life, I was fortunate enough to be in a position to do some regular climbing at the spectacular cliffs in downtown Brisbane.

I'd normally bring a camera, and when not climbing (or belaying), could play a little.

I love the way that the chalk from Tom's hands hangs in the air...

Light, shadow, and texture - 29th January 2018 - Chester, NS

As there's another winter storm on the way; I spent yesterday cleaning up debris around the yard.  Stumbling upon this stick, I thought it could be a nifty subject for some photographic exploration...

The entry hall-way had some awesome soft-light spilling in, and a shipping box waiting to be discarded provided a nice texture for the hero-branch to sit on.

Sony a6000/35-1.8, @f8, for 5 sec, ISO 100 (I think there's a 10mm macro bellows in there as well...)

and some alternates I thought worked out pretty well

here's a link #78

war and filmmaking...

Specifically the Thin Red Line.

Terrence-malicks-thin-red-line-traumatic-poetic-journey-heart-man/

and

theasc.com/magazine/feb99/war

This image (credited to Merie W. Wallace, from the American cinematographer magazine feb '99) was the absolute distillation of what I wanted to do when working in Film + TV

Just the sheer audacity of putting such a large crane on top of a hill, and using it to move a camera smoothly... leading grubby A-list actors in-close, with hundreds of soldiers and back-ground performers playing out their own little story-lines in the far off distance...

...There's even a microphone attached to the camera for a closer perspective (no real chance for a boom op to safely move with the camera)

As a newly graduated film student, the fact that this shot in my home state (up north obviously) amazed me, and I was extremely fortunate to work with many of the same crew over the next 15 years.

Several projects had their own mini-battle scenes, with full military might, and at times, hundreds of extras...

While never easy - it was always a pinch-yourself moment, when looking around at what it took to make it look right.
