two of...

...four; starts with a sticky location, and finishes with some night-time-pretty.

(well, technically - it starts with a night-time pretty title shot of the downtown area from the ol' griffith park observatory - a little preview of the pretty stuff to come...)

Continuing with my dedicated Touristy-Day in L.A. I stupidly decided to trust my google maps app on the phone to direct me to the LaBrea Tar pits.

it looked like it might be walkable from the natural history museum... so I set off on foot.

after a 3-block walk down some heavily fenced and sketchy-looking areas; I did a web search; and found that I was being lead only a 1/4 of the way... and in the wrong direction... (stoopid maps = stoopid Ian)

Back to the car, and a little 30 min drive found me at the real La Brea Tar Pits (next to the SAG offices, if anyone ever gets lost)

Rawr!

Little more grass than I expected

ahhhh, that's better

mmmmmm, tar-y

wow, he's a big'un

....and cue the funky-framing.

how do they expect little kids to sleep at night, when all they can dream of is flying skeleton-birds....

"least fulfilling job" award goes to, the poor lady piecing together the micro-bones...

right next to the tar-pits is a free to the public LACMA art gallery. Very stimulating for the (now-very scared) little minds

largest pool set I've ever seen, no side-pockets though

Muppet studios!

there's a small (7-car) viewing area along Mulholland Drive. as you can probably guess, it's a bit busy... took a good half hour wait till there was an available parking spot. the view was most definitely worth it.

looking at the sign from the "other side"

griffith park from another angle

exiting the car park/viewing area. When completed, the newly constructed house will have quite possibly the single best view in all of LA - I wonder who owns it?

freeway

no idea which studio this is - paramount? WB? Fox? (I think it's paramount)

only 28 stages? there's gotta be more round the corner!?!? (for those unaware - WB gold coast has 8, Fox down in Sydney, 7)

Night-time, and worth a re-visit to the observatory for photographic-goodness.

closer on L.A. 'tis very pretty

Finishing with another shot of the sign.

next-blog = the Getty Centre, and a museum of television (run by a single studio, so it's a little biased)

see you then
