the-never-ending-day...

...is finally over.

caught 4 films on the plane during the 16hr non-stop flight from Sydney. (in the loop, all about steve, surrogates, funny people)

after activating my visa (no problems this time), almost losing my ski-boots, and picking up the rental car; I battled my many many years of fighting to stay on the LEFT side of the road... and spent the day driving around Vancouver, taking a few photos, buying a street directory, and new ski-socks

I've also sorted out my phone situation

Canadian cellphone number = (604) 727 9690

I'm impossibly tired right now, but since I've managed to stay-up; hopefully It'll help to avoid the inevitable jet-lag...

tomorrow = sorting out a bank account, Social Insurance Number, calling a few people to catch up, and looking around.

see ya

Oh, almost forgot - photos from day 1

aside from displaying an impressive amount of hollywood junk, the screen in front of me was also able to display an indicator of our global progress, along with speed, altitude, distance remaining, arrival time, various global times, even a nifty graphic depicting day/night+map+us (it helped me to prepare for the sunset)

look out world...

...here i come.

that's right, I'm on my way back to canada.

I depart Brisbane at 0715 – and magically arrive in Vancouver 10 minutes later… it's a time-zone thing.

I can see skiing in my future. and it's going to be awesome.

I'll update when possible over the next 3 weeks, posting photos and random musings...

ok, gotta go and finish packing.

Well...

...I've completely forgotten to update this blog thingy.

what's happened over the past 2 months?

- I grew the mustache.

- I shaved the mustache.

- I continued to climb the story bridge.

- I managed to get some TV commercials, and a 4-day corporate video.

- I booked a trip to canada.

- I drank some coffee.

wait... what was that thing two points ago?

- I'm going to canada?

AWESOME!

When?

- 19th January

how long?

- 12 days in Vancouver, then 7 days skiing at Sun Peaks Resort (interior B.C.)

why?

- well... ummm... do I really need a reason? - Whistler is hosting the olympics, and have already broken their all time monthly snow record (almost before they opened)

are you sure there isn't another reason?

- oh yeah - I need to activate a 2 yr working visa,

nice. Anthing else remotely interesting happen in your prolonged absence from the digital realm?

- I managed to see AVATAR 5 days before it opened.

Huh, how?

- a friend's brother and his co-worker had press-tickets.

So - you've been looking forward to this film for quite some time - was it worth it?

- I'm still gob-smacked at the experience - easily the best time I've had in a theatre in a LONG time.

is it really that good?

- Yes

ok time for a finishing photo; what have you got for us this time...

...some sunset shots from work - work, this time meaning the story bridge adventure climb.

Movember 2009

I've decided to join the fundraising team at story bridge adventure climb for this years "Movember".

all funds go to worthy causes (mens mental health, and prostrate issues) and all you have to do is grow a moustache.

having never grown a 'stache before (always had an accompanying beard)... I though it could be some fun

I'll post pictures every few days...

here's the first one.

lots of cool animals, heaps of sun (I've really gotta start protecting myself better); and an amazing crew that are always fun to work with.

we finished the film just in time for a return flight to brisbane before Christmas, and i've slowly tried to re-integrate into my old life.

already picked up a 4-day short film at the end of january, and even got a chance to use my new equipment purchase - a schoeps CMC-Mk41 microphone (damn it sounds good on a sound stage...)

well. I'm off to try and update the website.

catch you all later

Would you like to hear a story…

…So I finally managed to see Australia; and was lucky enough to watch it in the outdoor cinema which inspired the design of the cinema portrayed in said film.

I've now seen the film a second time in preth, and am still unsure of how I feel about it...

overall I quite like the film (it's certianly much better than the press is making out).

on to other things...

we've now moved onto the Perth leg of our shoot...

soon I'll be back in Brisbane, wondering what to do with my life...

interesting weed whilst wandering around Broome...

If it seems like this post has been a little scatter-brained; it's cause that's how I currently feel...

'till next time.

Week 3...

…hot, hard, over!

Notable things:
This past week in Broome we were shooting nights; I almost quit mid-week (not going to go into it all here, but things are a little better), and I’ve spent yet another weekend in recovery mode (switching back to days).

I missed the ‘Australia’ Premiere in Sydney on Tuesday. Unfortunately I also missed the screening in Kununurra (10hr drive away), and in Broome on Thursday (for Brandon’s family, and some crew members – as there are a few of us up here). Subsequently I don’t know if I’ll be able to see the film before I fly to Perth on the 6th of December.

Storm-clouds moved in this afternoon and even gave a fine misting of precipitation in places; fingers crossed it’ll hold off for a few more weeks…

Most of the coming week will be spent indoors with some of the larger musical numbers…

I should be home for Christmas.

The heat is sending me mad – anyone up for a skiing trip to Japan at the end of January? (Seriously… anyone?)

Best wishes to everyone in Brisbane, hope you’re all coping with the storms…

week 2...

...is finished

Nothing more to say really;

The heat is still kicking my arse mid-week; and once again I find myself at the end of a weekend spent in recovery mode.

Most of the week we were shooting on a low-loader. It’s a trailer, which allows you to put actors in a vehicle and film them as if they were driving.

Upsides – very little booming is possible, and you spend most of your day sitting down…

Downsides – very little booming is possible, and you spend most of your day sitting down… On a camera box in the sun, whilst diesel exhaust-fumes waft by, and you’re safety harness gets in the way.

Picture time.

Red-dust/sun-burn combo at the end of a regular day.

Picture-car on low-loader. (In this particular set-up the camera is sitting in the front passengers’ seat shooting towards the back)

Weekly sunset shot #2

Filming in downtown Broome, WA (set to resemble 1960’s)

This past saturday, I went down to the lighthouse cliffs, to see if I could take a photo or two of the “dinosaur footprints”

Concrete representation of said footprints (the real ones are only visible during very low-tide)

This might be one of the real ones… or not… it’s kind of hard to tell without a compass.

Pretty, late-afternoon sun on the cliffs

Pretty Sunsets...

Are the norm, up here in Broome, WA

It is also, bloody hot during the day, (almost passed out on Tuesday, and Wednesday…)

We shot nights on Thu/Fri which allowed for a little reprieve from the heat, and the crew is starting to find it’s own rhythm; so things are looking up.

Here’s a few more photos…
